Orange County to kick off new state initiative to have more Texans tested for Covid-19

ORANGE COUNTY — On April 24, we learned about the first Covid-19-related death in Orange County.

We also learned that Orange County will be the first county in Texas to kick off a new statewide initiative to have more Texans tested for Covid-19.

Gov. Greg Abbott's goal is to test one percent of the population in each county.

Texas - Fort Bend County Man Tests Positive for Coronavirus

BREAKING NEWS: A Fort Bend County man has tested positive for coronavirus, according to media reports.

 

The presumptive case is the first in the state of Texas.

 

The man is in his 70's and recently traveled abroad, according to officials. He's in a hospital and in stable condition.

 

"This presumptive case is actionable and we are treating it as a positive," said Fort Bend County Judge KP George.

Governor Abbott Receives Briefing On Coronavirus, Provides Update On Precautionary Measures In Texas

Governor Greg Abbott today received a briefing from state health officials on the coronavirus (COVID-19) at the State Operations Center in Austin. The Governor was briefed by the Department of State Health Services (DSHS), Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and other relevant state agencies. Following the briefing, Governor Abbott provided an update on precautionary steps the state is taking in the event of the coronavirus spreading to Texas.

PORT ARTHUR — By this time next year, Port Arthur will have replaced most of its fleet of city buses with electric buses.

Port Arthur will become the first city in Southeast Texas to make the transition to electric city buses.

This transition is being paid for by federal funds from grants to purchase battery-powered electric buses and charging equipment . . .

Port Arthur residents can call 1-800-451-7746 if they were affected by Friday's dust release.

PORT ARTHUR, Texas — Motiva confirmed to 12News a 'petroleum coke dust' release happened on Friday. 

The written statement said the Port Arthur refinery had 'an event' that resulted in the release of the dust. 

A claims line has been set up as a 'cautionary measure' for anyone who was affected by the release.
