A new Hill–HarrisX poll shows that Americans have the highest levels of trust in their doctor for information on COVID-19, followed by their governor and other officials.

Eighty-eight percent of survey respondents said they trust their doctor “when it comes to information about coronavirus.” That number includes 52 percent who said they highly trust their physician and 35 percent who said they somewhat trust their physicians.

Doctors were followed by governors in garnering the most trust among Americans for information on the coronavirus, with 61 percent of survey respondents saying they trust their own governor.

A majority of respondents, 58 percent, said they also trust President Biden, including 32 percent who said they highly trust the commander-in-chief. 

Additionally, 58 percent of survey respondents said they trust Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, for information about COVID-19. That includes 31 percent who said they highly trust the nation’s leading infectious diseases expert.

Former President Trump received the lowest levels of support in the survey, with 41 percent saying they have any level of trust in him for information about COVID-19. Nineteen percent said they highly trust Trump for information, while 22 percent say they somewhat trust him.

The survey was conducted online from June 17-18 among 942 registered voters in the U.S. It has a margin of error of 3.19 percentage points.
