US allows pharmacists to prescribe Pfizer's COVID-19 pill WASHINGTON (AP) — Pharmacists can prescribe the leading COVID-19 pill directly to patients under a new U.S. policy announced Wednesday that's intended to expand use of Pfizer's drug Paxlovid. The Food and Drug Administration said pharmacists can begin screening patients to see if they are eligible for Paxlovid and then prescribe the medication, which has been shown to curb the worst effects of COVID-19. Administration officials have been working for months to increase access to Paxlovid, opening thousands of sites where patients who test positive can fill a prescription for Paxlovid. The FDA change will make thousands more pharmacies eligible to quickly prescribe and dispense the pill, which must be used early to be effective.

Thanks Mike for sharing this information.
This is another move toward upstream migration of covid mitigation actions.
(I am working hard to get this TTT & R language into the normal lexicon similar to TSA “See something – Say something”)
From an intrinsic motivational perspective TTT & R enables the individual to experience optimal Autonomy, Belonging, and Competence the drivers of intrinsic motivation, locus of control and sense of self (E. Deci et.al., of whom I studied
under).
As this progresses, it may enable FQHC like ACHS to better balance our primary care, population, and public health activities.
That being said, against a backdrop of Littleton NH having rolling “black outs” of their pharmacy due to the dearth of pharmacists, this effort may be thwarted by the realities of the market place.
