Orange County to kick off new state initiative to have more Texans tested for Covid-19

ORANGE COUNTY — On April 24, we learned about the first Covid-19-related death in Orange County.

We also learned that Orange County will be the first county in Texas to kick off a new statewide initiative to have more Texans tested for Covid-19.

Gov. Greg Abbott's goal is to test one percent of the population in each county.

February 5 was a Wednesday and Dr. Tom Johnson of Lamar State College-Orange was on the KOGT Morning Show and he brought a guest.
Johnson brought Dr. Ni Song, an LSCO associate professor of biology, who is a native of Wuhan, China.
Dr. Song talked about how physicians, including family members, were dealing with an outbreak of a deadly new coronavirus. They were needing masks, especially the N95 respirator masks, along with gloves. She asked Orange County for help.

Tekoa Academy cancelled classes for cleaning Thursday as a preventative measure after two coronavirus scares in Orange County school districts Wednesday.

 . . . Little Cypress-Mauriceville and West Orange-Cove CISD officials alerted parents about two possible exposures to the Coronavirus. A district official tells 12News that the two cases are related . . .
 . . . Both districts confirmed with the help of the CDC and health department that there was no exposure nor threat to students and staff. Because testing generally takes at least 24 hours, many parents wondered how the teacher's aide and student were cleared.
